Roughly 50 vehicles have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a official communication.
Police say they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a individual observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.
The substance had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they added.
Officers then located multiple other marked cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Police report early analysis show the liquid was most likely blood from a person.
"There is still no lead as to its source; authorities are currently not cognizant of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they added.
Local authorities said they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the public for details.
A high-ranking political figure said the attack left him stunned and required to be addressed quickly.
"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he stated on social media, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a assailant targeting individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
